Lipidrescue Therapy™

LipidRescue Therapy™ (LRT) is an intravascular infusion of lipid emulsion that treats severe, systemic drug toxicity or poisoning. LRT was originally developed to treat local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) which is a potentially fatal complication of local anesthesia. Since then, LRT has been shown to be an effective antidote for poisoning or overdose caused by a wide array of other (non-local anesthetic) lipophilic agents, including non-opioid drugs. Non-opioids include methamphetamine, cocaine, tricyclic anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, beta-channel blockers and calcium-channel blockers. Evidence from both laboratory models and case reports indicates that LRT is capable of reversing both cardiovascular and central nervous system (CNS) signs and symptoms of toxicity caused by various drug overdoses and poisonings. LRT for LAST has already received approval for orphan drug designation by the FDA.
